March is Problem Gambling Awareness Month

Did you know that the month of March is Problem Gambling Awareness Month? The National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) is heavily reliant on the participation of a wide range of people, and organizations such as Crossroads and those similar to it are all very important to this cause. For the past 14 years, the NCPG has put on an event for Problem Gambling Awareness hosted in the month of March, and this year’s theme is “Have the Conversation”.

The goals of the 2018 campaign, as reported by the NCPG, are:

  1. To increase public awareness of problem gambling and the availability of prevention, treatment & recovery services.
  2. To encourage healthcare providers to screen clients for problem gambling.

Nationwide, there will be events and conferences throughout the entire month of March to create awareness for problem gambling addiction. In Minnesota, we have the opportunity to attend a conference put on by Northstar Problem Gambling Alliance this month. The conference will be taking place on March 8th – 9th in Brooklyn Park. The conference is going to be focused on all things problem gambling, and how we can better understand, support, help, and so much more, those who are struggling with problem gambling.

Crossroads staff will be attending this conference to be able to better support the problem gamblers we serve here in our residential aftercare program. We look forward to growing and learning from the guest speakers and informative presentations that will be put on during this conference. Crossroads will also have a booth at the conference so if you attend, please come by and say hello.

We are excited to be participating in the National Problem Gambling Awareness month.
